Andrew Moore

My name is Andrew Moore I’m very well known for my photographic series, made over many years, that record the effect of time on the natural and built landscape. These series of mine include work made in Cuba, Russia, Times Square, Detroit, the Great Plains, the American South, and most recently, the Hudson Valley. I’ve been represented by the Yancey Richardson Gallery in NYC since 1994.

My photographs are held in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art, the Yale University Art Gallery, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and the Library of Congress amongst many other institutions. I also received a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation fellowship in 2014, as well been award grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the New York State Council on the Arts.

My most recent project, entitled Blue Alabama, was published in 2019.
Some of my previous books include: Dirt Meridian (2015), Cuba (2012), Detroit Disassembled (2010), Governors Island (2004), Russia (2005) and Inside Havana (2002).

I also produced and photographed "How to Draw a Bunny," a pop art mystery feature film on the artist Ray Johnson, which premiered at the 2002 Sundance Festival, where it won a Special Jury prize. It continues to be a highly regarded film, especially amongst art students, for it’s portrayal of the New York art scene and its subject who was called “New York’s most famous unknown artist”.

I’ve also been a teacher for many decades, and was a lecturer on photography in the Visual Arts Program at Princeton University from 2001 to 2010. I currently teach a graduate seminar in the MFA Photography Video and Related Media program at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
