Faride Mereb

I am a New York City based award-winning book designer, art director, researcher, & educator from Venezuela. I live here with my husband and my dog Caribe.

Having Caribbean and Middle Eastern heritage, and a profound love of books has deeply influenced my work, giving it a hybrid nature and an focus for language and the written word. My experience encompasses designing for newspapers, directing creative projects for academic institutions, printed matter for children’s books, and teaching. I hold ongoing artistic collaborations in Latin America and Europe.

I am a current member of the American Printing History Association (APHA), The Bibliographical Society of America, The Letterform Archive, and Center for Book Arts. I founded Letra Muerta Press in 2014 and do multiple collaborations in association with master printer Javier Aizpurua from Ex Libris Press. We have published eight books so far. Besides teaching, I work with companies such as Penguin Random House, Kenning Editions, Cuban Artists Around the World, Ugly Duckling Presse + many more. I collaborate with organizations like Type Thursday New York, Apps like Spline, Croissant, and brands like Modern Shelving. I am currently a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University in NYC where I study subjects related to printed history.
